Mirror of Mind

What is the cause of our sufferings and misery?

Since the dawn of human history, it has been assumed that human beings' agony, such as illness, accidents, misfortunes, etc., is the result of external forces. In ancient times, for instance, people believed that sickness was due to God's wrath. Instead modern people has substituted such things as bacteria, the behavior of others, the social structure, etc. for God's wrath or destiny.

The truth is that everything that occurs in our daily life is due to internal as well as external causes. All those who are exposed to tuberculosis germs do not always become infected and suffer from tuberculosis. No one suffers from TB until he/she allows the invasion of the germ. In other words the external factor is one side of the coin, while the other side and more important is the internal one. The latter is, so to speak, the problem of our human mind.

Mind and Body

Our state of mind is limited by our long-time customs and habits. For instance those who are in the habit of doing things hastily may only concentrate on achieving a result, ignoring many necessary steps of the process along the way. These people tend to be absent-minded, careless and accident-prone.

PL has revealed since its foundation that ALL IS A MIRROR of our mind and our agony and misfortune are caused mainly by our own mind. We are composed of body and mind but the mind is the controlling part. When our mind functions normally, our body and our surroundings stay normal and stable. Our self-expression is artistic and satisfying.

But as soon as our mind is disturbed or functions abnormally, our environment and situations turn sour so to speak; things go badly and we begin to suffer all kinds of physical ailments. Under such circumstances our self-expression also becomes imperfect and destructive. Thus we become miserable and unhappy.

Mishirase and Mioshie

In PL this agonizing situation, i.e., physical, mental and social, is called Mishirase (Divine Warning). We have to know what is wrong with our mind, how we are "off the track," in order to overcome the Mishirase and express our true selves more efficiently for the sake of others and society. Once we became PL members, we can request Mioshie (Divine Instruction) which will clearly show the cause of Mishirase, i.e. our mental habits.

This revelation of the truth of Mishirase-Mioshie is the heart and secret of PL. It is a vital and concrete truth which one can actually practice in his every day life and by which we are enormously blessed. By receiving the blessing of Mishirase-Mioshie we can step into a world free of agony and full of happiness, thus we can contribute truly for the realization of the world peace.
