A BASIC PERSONAL INTRODUCTION

To Be Blessed Spiritually and Materially

One last thing, I joined PL as a skeptic on spiritual matters and have had all my doubts solidly removed. What changed my skeptical, analytical mind, was that through practicing what I've been taught, I and my family have obtained incredible results. I've learned that God has indeed given us all an enormous spiritual potential for development, and that few of us have learned how to tap into it.

I now believe that one major reason for the lack of true spiritual understanding that seems to pervade our consumer oriented society, is a result of the strong emphasis on material belongings, such as two cars for every family, a dishwasher, computer and VCR for every home. Material things are great, but we have to put them into perspective. We have become much too attached to them. Directly related to this, we look for the quick technological fix for any problems we have, without understanding why we have these problems in the first place.

Hosho Prayer PL has a unique alternative to the traditional church collection plate which helps us to break our attachment to material things. Through Hosho we give what we feel is appropriate to give. There is no set amount we have to give. It is to be freely given each time we do a prayer for something. The important thing above all else, we must give with heart-felt willingness without a stingy mind. We learn through Hosho that if we ask for things, God does not give them without us first doing our best, especially by making a willing sacrifice. Since most of us place such a high value on money, giving just a few dollars on a regular basis helps us to break our attachment to material things.

We are given a special blessed Hosho envelope, which we take to the church (or send to it, if we live some distance away) on the PL Thanksgiving Day, the 21st of each month. We are then given a new envelope for the next month. Hosho means "a treasure waiting to be born." Oshieoya-sama has prayed that those who do Hosho, will be blessed many time what they give. My wife and I used to have money problems before joining PL, but now, even though we give Hosho each morning and evening, and whenever we pray Oyashikiri Prayer for various things, we have many monetary blessings. For purchases we make, we seem to find bargains without too much effort. This supports the spiritual truth that in order to receive, you have to give.

In PL we learn how to tap into the great spiritual potential we have all been given here on Earth, so that we can live our physical lives to their fullest potential. This is the means by which we can truly live life as art. The PL Church provides a support structure which exists solely to help each of us achieve our full capability as individuals, so that we can lead more enjoyable lives and also reach the spiritual state of mind we desire. The choice and effort is up to us.
